Supplement Brand Quality Guide

Not all supplement brands are equal — up to 90% fail third-party purity testing. This searchable guide helps you find brands that have been independently verified for quality, purity, and label accuracy.

Understanding Supplement Certifications

Third-party testing verifies that a supplement actually contains what the label claims, in the doses listed, without dangerous contaminants. Here are the certifications that matter:

Gold Standard

USP Verified

United States Pharmacopeia. The most rigorous certification: verifies identity, strength, purity, and dissolution. Annual facility audits. The gold standard — but expensive for brands, so fewer carry it.

Gold Standard

NSF International

Tests for contaminants (heavy metals, pesticides, microbes), verifies label accuracy, and audits manufacturing facilities. "NSF Certified for Sport" adds banned substance testing for athletes.

Strong

ConsumerLab Approved

Independent testing service that purchases products off shelves and tests them. Products that pass earn the CL Seal. Their reports ($49/year subscription) are the best consumer-facing quality resource.

Baseline

cGMP Certified

Current Good Manufacturing Practice. Required by the FDA for all supplement manufacturers. Necessary but not sufficient — this is the legal minimum, not a quality differentiator.
